— George Orwell
About Mr. Pence
Over the course of a 26-year special operations career, Eric Pence has integrated his expertise in all ranges of martial arts with the needs of warriors facing the most unforgiving fighting environments on the planet. He has developed lethal hand-to-hand combat training systems now in use by a wide range of special operations units as well as life-saving groundfighting applications for federal law enforcement. His Law Enforcement Ground-Fighting System is based on Ju-Jitsu techniques, but is designed from a trainer’s perspective, rather than from a martial artist’s point of view. This perspective has allowed Eric to develop a small number of simple, easily learned but effective techniques to give the law enforcement officer the tools to survive aggressive single and multiple assailant scenarios.
Military
U.S. Army Veteran: Airborne, Ranger and Special Forces Qualified with 3 combat tours in Afghanistan and one tour in Central America during the war in El Salvador and Nicaragua.
Ran 161 combat missions in Afghanistan, which is noted on the three Bronze Star medals he received for his combat tours in Afghanistan.
Spent 18 years on Special Forces Operational Detachments with 4 combat tours. In 2009, Eric commanded an ODA which engaged Taliban, Chechyn and foreign fighters in the largest battle in Northern Afghanistan since Tora Bora. Over 120 of the enemy were killed, and no U.S. personnel were wounded in that battle.
Instructor to U.S. Military Special Operations Forces and Federal Law Enforcement Agencies
Developed the Pence Martial Arts Law Enforcement Ground-fighting Program, and introduced the “defensive turtle” shooting position in 1999 to Federal Law Enforcement, to engage armed adversaries. This technique is now commonly used by Law Enforcement and Special Operations Forces.
Taught the Pence Martial Arts Special Operations Killing course which many have now copied and teach in their courses. Eric first developed and taught these techniques as an advisor to Filipino Rangers and Honduran and Salvadoran Ranger, Recon, and Special Forces in the late 70’s and early 1980’s.
